On July 2, the sounds
of Orchestre Septentrional d’Haiti
move the dance floor of Midsummer
Night Swing. After six decades with
a rotating lineup of Haiti’s finest
musicians, this maverick big band
still outfits compas, the
island nation’s signature dance
style, with horn charts irresistible
enough to challenge pop bands half
its age and size. It has the look of
an orchestra, but the sound and
fleet feel of an ace party band
crafting new formulas to rule the
dance floor. |
